ONE OF A KIND CARPENTER

Integrity, Reliability, Professionalism

Since 2003 I’ve been designing, manufacturing, building, installing and repairing in Gloucestershire, Bristol and South Wales. With such a legacy in the business, I understand that being a great Carpenter requires time, patience, attention to detail, and quality materials. These ingredients go into every piece I craft, so everything is original and built to last the test of time.

SOLID OAK PILLAR

Here I recreated the rotten top section of a grade II listed timber column that was supporting an exterior porch roof . Along with installing this I rebuilt all the rotten mouldings and put the porch back into its original condition.

CUSTOM DOUBLE DOORS AND FRAME

A customer had an antique Indian set of double doors and wanted doors to complement them to close off a hallway. Here I made a set of matching doors andFrame. As the customers love climbing I had them design a panel which I transferred onto timber to give a truly one of a kind addition to their home.

THE HOBBIT DOOR

Having replaced all the doors in a customers house with off the shelf Howdens oak veneered doors, the customer asked if there was anything that could be done with the archway that they wished to retain. Here I modified a stock Howdens door to enable me, to fit a handmade curved rail. Obviously this door required a curved door lining- so I made that too!

THE CELLAR UTILITY

Making the most of the space you have! With the help of Howdens joinery I converted a cellar wall into a useful utility space. The doors to the left enclose a washing machine and tumble dryer and the doors to the right a boiler. This wasn’t an off the shelf fit so it needed off the shelf kitchen parts to be heavily modified. The pictures don’t do this justice.

MAXIMISING STORAGE

A customer wanted to enhance their box bedroom to improve the storage and overall look for their young child. The box room has the stairwell running up in the corner- I boxed everything including making the bookcase. The two doors were handmade to match the main room door - inside hanging rails and shelves- see more on my Facebook page www.Facebook.com/peterhewittpm

STAIRS OVERHAUL

A rather tired staircase needed some TLC. Speaking to the customer and understanding what they wanted I proposed ripping Most of the handrails and balustrades out and replaced with solid oak. The newel posts were sanded back and given a fresh coat of satin paint.

UTILITY- MAKING IT ONE OF A KIND

The customer wanted to use off the shelf kitchen cabinets but my brief was to make it look bespoke. Here I fitted what they had ( Howdens kitchen units) then made some large profile crown mouldings - colour matching paint .Added some solid oak shelves with cast iron fittings.

WOOD PANELLING

Brining a touch of class to a foyer! To keep as much space as possible here I built the panelling straight on to the wall- the centre is actually the wall. The top was accented with a solid oak profile i machined, to help continue their oak theme of doors and stairs.

STORAGE

Modern houses seem to to lack storage, the customer wanted the under stairs area enclosed but wanted doors to match their existing. After building the timber frame, I made all the doors to match their main room doors. Here I also filled the awkward top corner space with a large door- just to make seeing what was inside easier I added a perspex side. Now the ironing-board, vacuum cleaner and mop are out of sight!

HOME BOULDERING WALL

Always nice todo something just a little bit different. Here I built a bouldering wall from scratch to fit in a customers garage- a lot of research went into this from the choice of materials, the angle of the wall through to the types of fittings

CUSTOM LOFT HATCH

I was asked to fit a loft hatch to a house of non standard construction- the frame work is steel and an off the shelf hatch wouldn’t fit between the steel ceiling joists. After sourcing the correct hardware I built and installed a spring assisted hatch

DRESSING AN OLD DOOR OPENING

Following the building of an extension, the customers found themselves with a boarded up door way- after talking to the customers and looking at some of the other design detailing in their house, I built them a dresser for storage and display- a great way to maximise and make the most of an awkward space.

CUSTOM MADE, SOLID OAK ‘IKEA’ INSPIRED SHELF

My customer loved the design of the ikea shelf but the quality and materials they’re made from didn’t fit into their home. I made some solid oak ones to complement their decor, the timber is joined with biscuit joints and glued together.

HALLWAY RENOVATION

Here two properties were knocked into one at some point in their past, however the hallway wall wasn’t straight, the floor wasn’t level and the ceiling was very limited on what lighting could be used. Along the wall I constructed a timber frame, ensuring a straight and plumb wall. Where a window one was was repurposed into a bookcase and a hidden alcove was exposed. I created a flat portion of ceiling and re-boarded for a plasterer to skim. I made a small custom oak door to create a cupboard and decorated throughout

CLEAN MODERN LIVING- WREN KITCHEN INSTALL

This is a very modern handless wren kitchen with granite top. The two tone cupboards in modern vibrant colours is bought to life by the gold detailing and amazing white worktop with gold fleck. A really enjoyable install as precision was key in this complex design.

GEORGIAN WINDOW

I was commissioned to make a new window for a grade II listed property, the original window was rotten beyond any form repair. Because it was listed it obviously there being other windows of the same style it was important to make a perfect copy of how the original would have been.

LOG CABIN ROOMS

A client asked me to create a partition and make two rooms in their log cabin. They wanted it to look like it was built that way so I had to match and build in the same timber. The log cabin is built on a former railway line so I opted to use a barn style door for part of it to maximise space but also give a nod to the history of where it was built by using a tracked door. The doors are off the shelf but heavily customised.
